CHILE: Arica is polled on granting Bolivia an outlet

The mayor of Arica, a city of 200,000 which is just over 2,050 kilometres north of Santiago and next to the Peruvian border, has invited the townspeople to say whether they are in favour of granting Bolivia a sovereign outlet to the Pacific. He predicts that they will say no. Government officials in Santiago have already started playing down the initiative.
